CRIME VICTIM ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Implemented in 1992, the Alvin Police Department’s Victim Assistance Program has grown into one of our most successful programs.  Created and made possible by the grant writing of Captain Stuart Crouch, funding received through the Office of the Governor from the Victims of Crime Act, as well as some matching funds from the City of Alvin, this program has become the model for other law enforcement agencies throughout the State.

Our program is considered  “comprehensive” in that it provides services to all victims of any type of crime occurring in Alvin.  Maribel Cooper, the Victim Liaison Officer, and Jennifer Chadis, the Liaison Assistant, make every effort to provide all available services to anyone who qualifies as a victim of crime in Alvin.

This program provides referrals to other area service providers, transportation (when needed) to hospitals, doctors and court appearances and, in the event of a violent crime, we offer top complete and submit applications to the State for compensatory awards to for qualified victims.

This program has received statewide awards and recognition for its innovative approach and accomplishments.  After ten years of grant assistance, this program continues to be such a meaningful and valued service that the City has adopted all funding responsibilities to continue these services.

If you have questions or if you, or someone you know, has been the victim of a crime in Alvin and are in need of some assistance, call Maribel or Jennifer at 281-585-7125
